Q: What is the difference between a Dry sauna, Wet sauna, Steam sauna and Herbal sauna?

A: Here are some definitions
Dry sauna is the name given to sauna bathing where you do not sprinkle water over the stones or humidify the air in any other way. The low humidity (just 5–10%) means that you can increase the bathing temperature to over 90°C.

A wet sauna is best enjoyed at temperatures of around 75–85°C with a relative humidity of 15–30%. By pouring water into the in-built humidifier on the sauna heater when you first switch the heater on you can ensure the right balance between heat and humidity from the start of your sauna bath to the very end. During a wet sauna water is also sprinkled over the sauna stones to increase the humidity.

A steam sauna is a gentler form of sauna bathing enjoyed at temperatures of 45–65°C with high levels of humidity (40–65%). To experience this form of sauna bathing you need a special sauna heater with a built-in water reservoir.

The herbal sauna is a variation on the steam sauna theme. Here liquid fragrances are added to the water sprinkled over the stones to perfume the air with the invigorating scent of aromatic herbs. The most sophisticated of Tylö’s sauna heaters have special containers for these fragrant essences and for dried herbs.

The steam bath is a totally different form of bathing. A steam generator located outside the steam room itself produces clouds of soothing steam in which to bathe. The 100% humidity means that, for most people, the bathing temperature is most comfortable at around 40–45°C.

Q: Is Infra-Red safe for people with heart problems?
A: Yes, by operating at a low temperature one can better regulate what is comfortable for you. Always consult your Doctor first about sauna use.

Q:How long should one stay in the sauna?
A: We have found that to really get the greatest benefits, try to sweat for a solid 30 minutes. This should be timed from the time you first start to sweat.

Q: Are these units really safe?
A: Absolutely, The same type of heat has been used in hospitals for new born babies for over 30 years. Also used by NASA for the astronauts.

Q: If I don't like to sweat or can't will I still get something from the sauna?
A: Sure, some people leave the door open and position themselves in front of the heaters to warm the trunk of the body.

Q: Should I drink water before or after a sauna session?
A: You should do both. As well as drinking water during the sauna session. At least 12 - 16 oz's of water.

Q: Is there anything I should do special when I start using the sauna?
A: Be sure to add a multi-Vitamin to your daily routine. The deep sweat you receive in a sauna will take out heavy metals and minerals which will need to be replaced.

Q: What else can be done to help rid my body from toxins?
A: This is simple. Start eating healthier. On this site you will find links to sites that will provide you with ways to use proper foods, herbs, etc. to aid the sauna in ridding your body of harmful toxins. Drink more water, 8oz for every 15lbs of weight.

Q: Who should not use saunas?
A: Pregnant Women, people with Multiple Sclerosis or Lupus should follow doctors advise on using infrared heat.

Q: Does the cedar give off any toxins or gases?
A: No! The center of the Canadian cedar tree is used which does not emit any gases or toxins at all.

Q: Can I use the sauna every day?
A: Sure! Just be sure to add more water and vitamins to your daily routine.

Q: Are the saunas good for arthritis pain?
A: Yes, the heat from the infrared heat brings very quick relief from pain.

Q. How do I install these saunas?
A: These saunas (other than the kits) are easily installed by either one or two people in under 1 hour. Our staff installed the one in our office in about 15 minutes.

Q: Where can my Sauna be installed?
A: Your new sauna can be installed anywhere a 110v or 220v line (depending on model) can be available. Either inside or outside. The far infrared models are best suited for inside use due to their cooler operating tempatures. A waterproof floor is best for the intended area to avoid rotting of the wood at the bottom. Many of our customers and businesses that use a sauna also have a shower nearby. Remember, these saunas are modular and can be moved pretty easily if you would like to try several locations.

Q: Do I have to use rocks in my sauna?
A: That Depends...If you are purchasing a far infrared sauna, then rocks are not necessary. For all standard heated saunas, rocks are necessary. These igneous rocks such as lava and granite are necessary to store heat and produce steam when water is poured over the top. These rocks dissipate the heat for a comfortable "soft" heat.

Q: Does my sauna require a drain?
A: No, the amount of water that is accumulated on the floor is usually very little. You can easily wipe this up with a towel, or just leave it to evaporate. All the woods that we offer on this site are safe to leave water to evaporate on.

Q: What kind of electrical is necessary?
A: You will either need 110v or 220v for your sauna, depending on the model. The larger models require 220v due to their extra heating requirements. You typically will have the electrician feed your new electrical through the roof behind the sauna. A GFCI breaker (like those used for hot tubs) are not necessary for a sauna. Your electrical connections should always be done by a licensed and bonded electrician.

Q:What do I have to have to assemble my sauna once I get it?
A: The tools you will need include a screwdriver, hammer, and possibly a level. Other than that, all the tools you will need (usually just an allen wrench) will be included. You will also need to hire an electrician to run the electrical for your sauna as well.
